IMPORTANT MEMBER SURVEY AND MERGER PLANNING UPDATE.

We hope you are doing well and that you and your family remain safe and healthy during these challenging times.

Following on our previous emails in December and March, today we are reaching out to update you regarding the proposed national merger of Supply Chain Canada.

As you may recall, in December 2020 the volunteer chairs from across each of the provincial and territorial institutes had put forward a compelling long-term vision for Supply Chain Canada: one strong association from coast-to-coast-to-coast, that elevates the end-to-end supply chain profession, makes careers better for our members, and grows our association to 45,000 members to strengthen ourselves, in order to deliver a unified future for the country.

In March, we updated you that the Federation Council approved, in principle, that the separately incorporated Institutes and National should merge their operations, personnel, funds and other assets into a single legal entity. The Federation Council is the country-wide decision-making body made up of the volunteer chairs and chief staff officers from each of our legally incorporated provincial and territorial institutes. At the Federation Council each institute has an equal voice and vote. As part of the decision-making process, that body has also authorized the development of a Master Merger Plan for review and analysis, which will provide full details, including financial implications and member service and engagement enhancements. This strongly supported Federation Council vote was an agreement in principle among the federation partners that additional planning was warranted and needed before a final recommendation could be made to our membership.

This Master Merger Plan will be presented to all Institute Boards prior to a Federation Council meeting in June to consider final approval of the path forward. Should the Federation Council approve the path forward in June there will be an extensive engagement with members, and you will have the final say through a members’ vote in the Fall at special meetings organized by each provincial and territorial institute.

As a not-for-profit organization dedicated to serving our members we are driven by our mission: To provide leadership to the Canadian supply chain community, provide value to all members, and advance the profession. At the heart of these words is the notion that we exist to elevate the supply chain profession in Canada. In order to deliver against this mission, we must grow to reach a critical mass in order to be the voice of supply chain in Canada. We must enhance the standards of the profession if supply chain is to be respected around the executive tables in corporate Canada. The SCMP must become the leading and most respected supply chain designation in Canada, which employers must seek more often than they do today.

This mission isn’t new to us. We developed a robust, forward-looking strategic framework in 2018 to achieve our mission, but to date have not made enough substantial strides towards achieving its envisioned success. While we are proud of our many accomplishments in the past few years and confident in our leadership, we have seen far too often that our structure has caused dysfunction and inhibited our ability to scale and grow. Our fees remain high versus our competitors and our growth remains relatively stagnant in most of our provinces and territories. Internal competition directs our energies away from serving our members, and our voice must become louder and more concerted to further add value to our members and to our profession.

Our profession and our market are evolving fast and our association must keep pace and, hopefully, lead that evolution. Today we are faced with increasing challenges and we recognize that significant change is needed. Our goal is to pool our collective experiences, resources and people to add, never diminish, the value that every member should expect from our association.

Addressing these challenges has been our unwavering commitment. We believe that by merging our strengths together into a strong national association, we can deliver enhanced value for our members while safeguarding our future sustainability and growth by enabling:

Standardized and reduced membership fees, ensuring benefits, access and value that are consistent across the country;

Growth in membership and member engagement across the country;

Access to significantly more learning resources including webinars about our sectors, leadership events, live chat series, reports and more;

Enhanced customer service, more local and national volunteer opportunities, and a commitment to more local events, input and engagement;

A financially stronger, more efficient, and effective association, removing competition between and among institutes, and delivering more nimble and innovative decision-making; and

Greater prominence of the SCMP as a national designation and recognition of our profession.

Our focus will remain on providing you, our members, exceptional value and service, ensuring growth and resiliency in our profession.

It is important that we have your input on this proposed change, so that our recommendation to you is thoughtful and planned. To help us, we invite you to complete the following 10 minute survey. Kindly complete the survey before Tuesday, May 25th, 2021.
